GPL Summer 2017: Resurgence Bows Out25.08.2017

After an action-packed 3 days, the Group Stages for Garena Premier League (GPL) Summer 2017 finally closed out amidst much spine-tingling action. The 5 regions fought bravely for a chance to be one of the 2 teams to advance into the Knockout Stage.

Resurgence had their ups and downs but their performance during the first 2 days of the Group Stages left them at a favourable position to fight for the second slot to advance into the Knockout Stage.

Despite the short period of time they had to start working as a cohesive unit, Resurgence managed to tough it out and showed the other Southeast Asian regions their mettle and tenacity.

It all boiled down to the last match of the Group Stages - Resurgence was up against Team Manila Eagles for the last match of Day 3. They were the two candidates (with the exact same standing) vying for that coveted Knockout Stage spot, and it just so happened that this deciding last match would determine who advances.

With so much riding on the line, both teams gave it their all for this closing act. Ultimately, Team Manila Eagles clinched the victory in a super fast paced 26-minute game.

Unfortunately, Resurgence's journey to Worlds ends at the Group Stages of GPL Summer 2017. Throughout these three days, our Singapore representatives put up a good fight and have performed very admirably. With that, here are your final standings after the Group Stages:

Young Generation from Vietnam and Team Manila Eagles from Philippines thus take the 2 coveted Group Stage spots and will be facing up against Ascension Gaming from Thailand and Gigabyte Marines from Vietnam respectively. These 4 teams will then slug it out for the honor and glory of being one of the two teams that will represent Southeast Asia in Worlds 2017.
