The Garena Student Alliance (GSA) Bootcamp was held last weekend from 29 - 30 July 2017. As a refresher, the bootcamp was designed to provide tertiary-level students with insights and exposure on eSports strategies, tournament administration from experienced speakers and networking opportunities.
DAY 1: EVENT PLANNING & MARKETING
The first day saw the students being given a crash-course on how to visualize an eSports tournament. In this case, event planning and marketing are the most crucial of elements.
Garena Malaysia’s very own Yasmin ‘GM MakyWaky’ Liyana highlighted the importance of laying out all the ideas in your mind and making the right tweaks before proceeding with a proposal plan. From a marketing perspective, it’s all about knowing the needs of your audience and creating attractive points allows you to engage with them as well.
The event was followed by a group activity and then, a discussion on the history of Riot Games and Garena which was led by Mark ‘Riot Westbourne’ Sargeant. Keeping content original through creative brainstorms has always been a major standard in this collaboration.
DAY 2: WELCOME TO THE GSA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The second day made way for a much bigger announcement: the first-ever GSA Championship. A national eSports tournament for Malaysian universities, the GSA Championship will feature a prize pool of more than RM 60,000 including partial scholarships. In other words, a merge between games and education on a much grander scale.
The GSA eSports clubs will be directly involved in the administration process alongside Garena Malaysia which includes tournament formats, rules and regulations and ground force execution as a whole.
